ALDH1A2
aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member A2
Pathway candidate — not linked to PFS or PSSD by any record here
Gene summary
A protein-coding gene on chromosome 15 (drug metabolism (phase i)). This protein belongs to the aldehyde dehydrogenase family of proteins. The product of this gene is an enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of retinoic acid (RA) from retinaldehyde.

Protein reference (UniProt)
- Protein
Retinal dehydrogenase 2
- Function
Catalyzes the NAD-dependent oxidation of aldehyde substrates, such as all-trans-retinal and all-trans-13,14-dihydroretinal, to their corresponding carboxylic acids, all-trans-retinoate and all-trans-13,14-dihydroretinoate, respectively. Retinoate signaling is critical for the transcriptional control of many genes, for instance it is crucial for initiation of meiosis in both male and female (Probable). Recognizes retinal as substrate, both in its free form and when bound to cellular retinol-binding protein (By similarity). Can metabolize octanal and decanal, but has only very low activity with benzaldehyde, acetaldehyde and propanal (By similarity). Displays complete lack of activity with citral (By similarity).
- Pathway
Cofactor metabolism; retinol metabolism.
- Subcellular location
Cytoplasm.
- Associated conditions
Diaphragmatic hernia 4, with cardiovascular defects (DIH4).

Why its pathway is in the library
Phase I enzymes determine exposure to finasteride, SSRIs, and other implicated drugs; variation here shapes the likelihood and persistence of adverse effects.
Written for the whole drug metabolism / retinoid signaling family, not for ALDH1A2 specifically.
Mentioned in 0 corpus records
No corpus record names ALDH1A2 directly yet. It is in the library because it sits in a pathway the corpus tracks (Drug metabolism, retinoid signaling).
