SLC6A3
solute carrier family 6 member 3
Pathway candidate — not linked to PFS or PSSD by any record here
Gene summary
A protein-coding gene on chromosome 5 (drug and xenobiotic transporters, neurotransmission). Encodes a dopamine transporter which is a member of the sodium- and chloride-dependent neurotransmitter transporter family. The 3' UTR of this gene contains a 40 bp tandem repeat, referred to as a variable number tandem repeat or VNTR, which can be present in 3 to 11 copies.

Protein reference (UniProt)
- Protein
Sodium-dependent dopamine transporter
- Function
Mediates sodium- and chloride-dependent transport of dopamine. Also mediates sodium- and chloride-dependent transport of norepinephrine (also known as noradrenaline) (By similarity). Regulator of light-dependent retinal hyaloid vessel regression, downstream of OPN5 signaling (By similarity).
- Subcellular location
Cell membrane; Cell projection, neuron projection; Cell projection, axon.
- Tissue specificity
Highly expressed in substantia nigra. Expressed in axonal varicosities in dopaminergic nerve terminals (at protein level). Expressed in the striatum (at protein level).
- Associated conditions
Parkinsonism-dystonia 1, infantile-onset (PKDYS1).

Why its pathway is in the library
Transporters set systemic exposure to finasteride/SSRIs and clear conjugated steroid metabolites — directly relevant to both drug pharmacokinetics and Powers' clearance-centered PFS mechanism. Monoamine, GABA, glutamate, and cholinergic systems are the direct pharmacologic targets of SSRIs/SNRIs (PSSD) and the downstream effectors of neurosteroid signaling (PFS).
Written for the whole drug transporters / neurotransmission family, not for SLC6A3 specifically.
Mentioned in 0 corpus records
No corpus record names SLC6A3 directly yet. It is in the library because it sits in a pathway the corpus tracks (Drug transporters, Neurotransmission).
