HTR1B
5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1B
Pathway candidate — not linked to PFS or PSSD by any record here
Gene summary
A protein-coding gene on chromosome 6 (neurotransmission). The protein encoded by this intronless gene is a G-protein coupled receptor for serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine). Ligand binding activates second messengers that inhibit the activity of adenylate cyclase and manage the release of serotonin, dopamine, and acetylcholine in the brain.

Protein reference (UniProt)
- Protein
5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1B
- Function
G protein-coupled receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). Also functions as a receptor for ergot alkaloid derivatives, various anxiolytic and antidepressant drugs and other psychoactive substances, such as lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of downstream effectors, such as adenylate cyclase. HTR1B is coupled to G(i)/G(o) G alpha proteins and mediates inhibitory neurotransmission by inhibiting adenylate cyclase activity. Arrestin family members inhibit signaling via G proteins and mediate activation of alternative signaling pathways. Regulates the release of 5-hydroxytryptamine, dopamine and acetylcholine in the brain, and thereby affects neural activity, nociceptive processing, pain perception, mood and behavior. Besides, plays a role in vasoconstriction of cerebral arteries.
- Subcellular location
Cell membrane.
- Tissue specificity
Detected in cerebral artery smooth muscle cells (at protein level). Detected in brain cortex, striatum, amygdala, medulla, hippocampus, caudate nucleus and putamen.

Why its pathway is in the library
Monoamine, GABA, glutamate, and cholinergic systems are the direct pharmacologic targets of SSRIs/SNRIs (PSSD) and the downstream effectors of neurosteroid signaling (PFS).
Written for the whole neurotransmission family, not for HTR1B specifically.
Mentioned in 0 corpus records
No corpus record names HTR1B directly yet. It is in the library because it sits in a pathway the corpus tracks (Neurotransmission).
