GNB3
G protein subunit beta 3
Gene summary
A protein-coding gene on chromosome 12 (neuroendocrine and peptide signaling). Heterotrimeric guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins), which integrate signals between receptors and effector proteins, are composed of an alpha, a beta, and a gamma subunit. These subunits are encoded by families of related genes.

Protein reference (UniProt)
- Protein
Guanine nucleotide-binding protein G(I)/G(S)/G(T) subunit beta-3
- Function
Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) are involved as a modulator or transducer in various transmembrane signaling systems. The beta and gamma chains are required for the GTPase activity, for replacement of GDP by GTP, and for G protein-effector interaction.
- Associated conditions
Night blindness, congenital stationary, 1H (CSNB1H).

Why its pathway is in the library
Peptide-hormone and related signaling modulates sexual function, stress, and behavior — symptom domains prominent in PSSD/PFS.
Written for the whole neuroendocrine signaling family, not for GNB3 specifically.
